Feels like I'm getting to old to be active for a whole day. Damn, the Brännboll game ended not in our favor (losing all the 3 matches we were in, we all collectively blame our best player PO for not being there) and then the crayfish party later that evening was really fun but I'm probably not up to be that active for a whole day. Tired, thirsty (for something else than alcohol) and my body hurts. When did it come to this. I feel like a senior. The names for us really fit how I feel. Freshman (Zero), no clue whatsoever over what's going on. Then "sponsor" (that was the only word in English that fadder translated to), teaching the new zeros. Then old sponsor, no responsibility but still a fun time. And now senior sponsor. Right before the leap to the working world away from the academic halls lined with books. And then wait the dinosaur sponsor meaning that you are more or less dead. The worst thing is that I'm only 21 and still feel so tired.
And then it is the cocktail party tomorrow. Parts of me just want to stay 1-2 hours and then go home to my bed. God, I feel old. It's just to suit up and take the bull by its horns. Time to regain the vigor that has been lost. Time to party and show what the old guard can do.
A Blog with a purpose to discuss important things in life, like politics on multiple levels (mostly swedish), music, movies and video games together with the challenges in my personal life (that is none actually, it's just a smooth ride, or is it?).

Wreck Man
First week of school cleared. I'm not used to have 3-4 classes a week. It's one a week maximum or non at all during essay writing. Seems to be an interesting autumn. Best thing is that everything is over December 12th with the exam of the Spanish course. Then it's free time for a month over Christmas and the New Year. What am I supposed to to during that time? Oh well.
Picked up the overall for the student organization lying somewhere in the apartment since... Actually, I don't remember when I last used it. Must have been Walpurgisnacht. Fixed some parts that have fallen of. These parts in question was sewn on by me in the first hand so that more or less explain the need to redo it. Of course this time it was together with some paste. Hopefully it will last longer. I missed the introduction for the new freshmen due to ending Spanish at 20:40 and beginning next day 8:15. Not the most ideal time to party and drink heavily for. Different things today. First is the annually brännboll tournament. The English-speaking world would call it a light version of baseball or something like that (but not softball). Need to cheer for SVIK:s team like every year (except last year when I was in the US and had a good time). Wonder where we end up this year. And as the final thing for today it's the crayfish party. Hope we can keep it civilized. So you see there is a lot of thing to do today. So hopefully it will be legend-wait for it-dary
Sunday is then a resting day for everyone (it's usually needed for some reason, yeah I don't go to the extreme, at least on those things) and Monday is back to school and afterwards a cocktail party. Nice to suit up again and with some restrain it will not end up as the cocktail party 2 years ago. A shot race in 5 minutes are not good for someone with a very low alcohol tolerance after a sober summer. It didn't end well. The goal is not to turn into a wreck man but as Victory sang in their song, "I gonna be a wreck man but it feels so good". It sure does, for a while at least.

Back In Black
Finished first class session and one more to go. Project management or whatever it's called in English and then it's Spanish class left. Fun to see so many new faces and some old ones so it doesn't feel like I'm completely alone. Bad thing is that Spanish begins 18:15 and ends at 21:00. It's late, every Tuesday onward. Good thing is that it never is in the way for other activities (cause what ever happens on a Tuesday?) except these first two weeks. Today is the first day for the Freshman and I can't join my student organization as I have already pointed out I end class 21:00 and begin tomorrows class 08:15. It's not a good point in getting a hangover for that. There will be other chances.
On the gaming front I began playing Battalion Wars for the Gamecube, a really fun game. Commanding a couple of soldiers in a war against stereotypical Russians and Germans as the stand in for the Americans (of course the story ave different names for them, but the accents make it very clear who they should be). Feels good running in to combat with flamethrowers, bazookas, anti-air and rifles against enemy forces and see them be destroyed. Of course the art style and the dialog makes it a take that against the cold-war. The Western Frontiers (America) and Tundran Territories (Soviet/Russia) have been at war for ages and established a demilitarized zone between them. Power shift in Tundran from Tsar Gorgi to his son Marshal Nova that wants peace. Tsar Gorgi don't like it, the forgotten nation Xylvania (Germany) enters and Frontiers and Territories joins together and later get some help from the Solar Empire (Japan). The sequel is also good, Battalion Wars 2, the story is just about the Solar Empire being attacked by the Anglo Islands (UK) for they belive they have developed a secret weapon...oh, I think they meant something with that. Of course the Xylvanians are to be blamed.
In the real world on the other hand the Swedish-Israeli controversy is escalating. Now IKEA and Norway is also caught in the cross-fire. One of the worlds most ridicules fights in history. It almost borders on the insanity of the Soccer war. Of course, if the Israeli would declare war go ahead as the politicians have already demilitarized Sweden. But it would be a bit disappointing that almost 200 years of peace ends because one very awful evening tabloid wrights something that even a child would understand is completely bs.

Crazy World
It's now more than a year since I was in USA for 4 months (some parts are written in Swedish, others in English). A good time but bad timing with being only 20 and 2 weeks after getting home turning to 21. Damn those alcohol laws.
Anyway, I've been home for 4 days participating in a crayfish party, a yearly tradition that I had the chance to get to since the 2 last years I missed for some reasons. 2 years ago I had to redo my last economics test and last year I had to take a flight across the Atlantic. Anyway, 4 days away and all hell breaks lose. Swedish newspaper publish some unprofessional article and the Israeli stages what can only be described as arson, murder and jaywalking and then we have some polls indicating a complete redecorating of the political parliament of Sweden for next years election. Of course the last thing is a good thing in that it with most certainty breaks the bloc politics. The question is, which bloc will fall asunder?
As usual I propose the S, Fp (and if that's not enough I can say C and Mp as well). But that would be destroying both blocs completely and probably destroy all parties credibility (of course with some at their lowest you can wonder how much more they can sink). So one party from either must leave their bloc and join the other. Historically that have always been C, but with their current leader that's probably out of the question (probably one of the reasons I don't like her, she puts her own agendas in front of what is necessary for Sweden overall). If you look at the municipality's on the other hand it's Mp that sometimes join the center-right bloc in a blue-green coalition. This is a likely outcome in that Mp often has come to agreement on other question when it comes to education and such with the center-right parties. The problem for them is that it would destroy future coalitions with the center-left parties. But they would probably win votes on their own as they would stand above the petty bloc politics that built trenches around the other parties.
Of course this is only speculations so we have to wait for the results next year. Of course, for a political scientist as myself this will be more interesting than the final in any sport event. Yeah, so I don't like sport, big deal.

Politician
Going home tomorrow to be with the family days before the school starts again (after being officially out of school in 8 days but who cares). Nice to be back in normal routines again although it already began yesterday when I sat in in the library again and checked my essay before I turn it in tomorrow before the trains leave.
Otherwise, nothing happening. Well, except that the Swedish military conscript is disappearing. Not much to say about that as I never did military service, I wanted to but lacked the strength (and the only reason why I wanted that was to avoid make any decision on what to do with my life for a year and earn some money). Worked out fine anyway. Right now I would say we should keep the old system, but that could be my conservative side that screams for not changing anything. Maybe it will be a good idea, I don't know. What I do no is that people always try to appear more than they are. After reading an article on Newsmill trying to make a connection to France culture arrogance and their weakening export and this created a debate about immigration and whatnot. I will not go in there cause I see it below me. But some of the comments are funny somehow. Especially one that states "fine, it could be like that with all the statistic but statistic has also proven the correlation between sea pirates and global warming" and then make it sound ridicules. Now, I'm not much into this, I'm a political scientist foremost, but I believe that that correlation is actually true. Take thee facts for example:
1) Global warming heats the atmosphere including the oceans.
2) Certain fish species have adopted to a specific climate in the water.
3) Many pirates are former fisherman.
So I would say that global warming heats the oceans, the fish disappears from its normal habitat and the fisherman who used to fish there lose their income and then turns to pirates in desperation. Logical. He chose a really bad example. Where did I learn this? Golden Sun of course!
Also as a side note my view on immigration is that it shall continue do to some reasons:
1) The Swedish population are not reproducing itself and many are moving away from Sweden.
2) Without a workforce, who would want to start a business that can't expand?
3) If we close the borders, will we make the necessary arrangement to fix the problems? Probably not, we take the money and use it for something else and when we must open the borders again, it will be all the same again. It doesn't fix the problem, it just postpone it to our children and so onward.
What we must do is fix the integration while we have it open to adjust it what happens. If the politicians knew or cared they could easily try to explain it to the population. But as always, we have the politicians we deserve.

Nobody's Fault But Mine
So I've done the statistic test or exam or whatever it was. Really interesting I must say. Without much knowledge locked into my brain (I began studying old test/exams on Thursday) I think I faired pretty well. No VG (VG is the highest grade in Swedish University and College, the whole system contains U=not passed, G=passed and VG=passed with distinction, the elementary school has one grade more MVG=passed with special distinction) but I at least feel like have a chance to pass the test/exam without have to redo it, if I have I should at least be more prepared than this time. I probably should study all the time until they announce the grades, but as they are mathematicians I expect it to come round next week (once our teacher corrected the test over the weekend with around 200 students and then compare it to teachers in other subjects that take the maximum 3 weeks on classes of 10).
The irritating part is that if I had checked the old tents last week I probably could have prepared myself enough for a VG. With my luck I will probably get 39 points where 40 is G. Of course if that happened then I have a chance for VG but I'm a lazy person so I prefer not to.

Countdown's Begun
On Saturday it's time to evaluate the statistic course with an exam. I don't feel good. I wished I studied more cause it don't like it's in place. Yesterday I thought I had it and then today I went thru some old exams and I didn't get anything. First they translated every word to Swedish (the literature was in English) and then I stumbled upon formulas that I never seen before. It's not a good start.
To pick up on my interest for politics (I can't stand the calculations at the moment) the news have reported the new poll (I gonna hate everything about statistics when Saturday is over) that shows the political parties whereabouts in peoples minds. So unfortunately we have to endure sd in the Riksdag for 4 years it seems and as I have said before anyone with some knowledge could easily pick them apart, but it's the Swedish politicians we are talking about. The good thing with this is that kd is kicked out and c stands on an edge. Also if this happened and sd is in the Riksdag the politicians can finally destroy this bloc politic that has more or less crippled our advancement since the 60's when s had full control and everyone thought it was good (that is everyone thought that they did good things for the whole country, now they are just pathetic). With sd in the Riksdag in between the blocs someone has to break the tie. The red-greens have already announced that they don't will participate in a government with the help of SD and the Alliance would implode if that would happened as c announced the same message. Also, I think the liberals have the most to lose as most academics despise sd and are one big voter group for the Alliance. As stated before my favorite would be s and fp but I guess we have to throw in c and mp to get enough seats in the Riksdag. A green-social-liberal coalition. Unfortunately we would still not get any energy compromise to get us out of the mess. More nuclear power to the people.
Also the EU-Parliament runner up pp seems to take a step back. Some political scientist in Sweden try to explain it (Swedish) with that they are to small in the big picture and that maybe it's not enough to get elected. Of course some idiotic reader argues that there 3 big questions touch upon thousands of different questions and things. Yes, maybe it does, but as the professor (or whatever he was) said people are more interested in welfare and economic questions that pp haven't uttered a thing about. With this I came up with the perfect metaphor for them. They are a rock band that keeps a special music stile (integrity) but the big masses only buy people singing about welfare and economic, this is the mainstream. So now they have their small following, but want to get into a bigger audience. So what do they do? Guess they have to touch upon the other questions and be more broad to get more votes, but of course this will lead to It's popular, now it's suck and they lose their main group. Question is if this will propeller them to stardom or this turn will make them come crash down like a lead balloon.

Only The Good Die Young
Saturday it's time to show what I learned from this Statistic course I've been working on all summer. This doesn't feel good at all. I should have started studying in the library last week but I was to lazy so now it's time to hit everything into my head does 6 hours the library is opened and then some extra hours when I get home. At least I begin to move my feet again. To much sitting around the computer lately I must say.
The best part going to the library was that I met some friends (yes, there where others that spent a relatively nice day in the library) that I could talk to. Social communication skilled improved after almost withered away in the heat or rusted in the endless rains that comes in from the west EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'm not kidding. It rains almost every day, but the heat makes it worse as it gets so dry air.
Worst thing was when I get to the school the flag is half way down indicating that someone passed away. Wondering who that was I get in my usual spot and when my friends turned up one of them tells me that it was one of our teachers this spring. That was really shocking because this teacher was a very hyperactive and always smiling person. No one could see that she was ill (I heard that she had cancer and that it came back during the spring, but she never showed it) and then I get to hear that she wore a wig all the time as well due to the medication. You could never see that. She looked completely healthy last time I saw her and never suspected it would be like BANG! she's gone. It feels very unrealistic. Cancer must be the worst disease in the western world, it just seems to appear and then you're gone. I had a math teacher a couple a weeks in 9th grade that also died in cancer just like that. Also a fun person to talk to as not only was he good at math, he also let us play flipper on his portable computer. Another one I know died in cancer was my sisters flute teacher. Really, cancer is by far the worst western disease. This just makes me think about the Charlie Brown special about leukemia. The worst part in the whole episode is when Janike (that was her Swedish name at least) gets back to school after a short treatment and is made fun of by this bully due t her lost all her hair. First time I saw it I couldn't stop shedding some tears. It's so sad.

Alien Nation
Summers soon over. 3 weeks and then the autumn semester begins (of course I have my statistic course exam 1,5 weeks from now, but who cares). Thank god it's soon over. It gets really boring during the summer (could probably be due to me never doing anything but thats beside the point). Due to this I tend to flood my eyes with TV-shows. It's actually possible to spend a whole day watching TV from 10 o'clock when I wakes up till 17 o'clock when there is one hour of nothing to watch until it Bones begins at channel 3 and then onward to 1-2 o'clock in the morning. Bed, Wake up, rinse and repeat. On top of that you study for the statistic course ("of course" you do). Conclusion, there is a lot of unnecessary shows out there in the ether, some I don't get at all.
One of my weaker moments was when I "stumbled" across the According to Jim that runs on channel 6. This show really give me mixed signals about the culture of Americans (or those stereotypes that I have but who doesn't). Usually in Western media overall there is a huge dislike for the parents-in-law, portrayed as they are like evil and overly embarrassing. Even characters own parents are horrible. In this episode Jim somehow competes to get his mother-in-law to stay at his place at Christmas against his sister-in-law. Why? Shouldn't he be glad to not have another person commenting on him or push him around? Compare to like Everybody loves Raymond and 2 1/2 Men. Those parents are horrible and I don't know why they put up with them. Cut the cord already.
Of course this could be just me as I up to this day only have met any of my family members for 14 days of the 218 days of this year. And if I put in the whole year it will probably be around 37 days out of 365. Probably even less next year as I "should" start working and lose 12 days over the summer. That means that the only days I meet the family is during midsummer, the annual crayfish party, Christmas, my birthday and New Year (the last three could be counted as one as they pretty much are one and the same). Where does this attitude come from, especially when everyone around me predicted I would be the last of my siblings to leave home? The easy way to explain is that the "big old government" has undermined the family authority by taking on the responsibilities that in more conservative countries lies with the family instead of the state. The whole welfare system instead of the dependence of ones own family to give everyone, in theory, an equal opportunity in life. Yes, I am a child formed after the Swedish welfare system and I'm proud of it (but of course there is some flaws in it that needs to be addressed).

Somwhere In Time
Last week my clock stopped working as it ran out of batteries after 6 years. It didn't bother me while I was home doing nothing, but when I went down to get it fixed they said it would take around 40 minutes so I went on a short shopping trip. I was really annoyed every time I wondered how much time had passed. You look down on your arm and there is nothing there. Talk about annoying. But now it's back and shall probably work for another 6 years.
Also this is the 77 blog post I made for this blog. My first one had 77 in the time of 4 months but this is in its 8 month and just recently gets the same amounts of posts. Then of course the other one was more or less a day-to-day information to my parents and friends how I was doing in the US. Because of this the most posts were written around what I was eating as there was nothing else to write. I stopped after I realized that each and every post was something like breakfast at Starbucks: Hot Café Mocha with whipped cream and a sausage sandwich for $ 6,66, lunch in the school cafeteria with a salad with a lot of Rhode Island dressing, a pizza slice with some meat on, a soda or orange juice and a dessert preferable a brownie with whipped cream and last a dinner in the shape of a double burger from Z-burger with fries and a soda. No wonder my weight rocketed with 10 kilos. Admittedly, I actually miss the food and coffee. Of course I have Swedish chocolate here so it almost outweighs the others.
Also a new Monkey Island game is out. Tales of Monkey Island split up in 5 episodes coming out ones a month or something. Fun, but problems with the sound I must admit. The voice acting is not as fine tuned as earlier installments and then LeChucks voice actor is not the same as it used to be. It should be Earl Boen who makes that voice (Boen is otherwise famous for being the psychiatrist in the first three Terminator movies) which funny enogh he does in the remake of the first game of the series. Makes on wonder why he didn't do the voice acting of both when other voice actors have the same roles.
