First a disclaimer. Anyone and everythig said here is about a fictional event and thus not have anythin to attribute to reality. Aswell as that, everyone one in the simulation had assigned roles that they had to play, therefore their statements don't neccisary represent their own views.
Alright. Time to show who rules over the foreign policy issues in the US. Today we went to some American defense university (can't remember the name) and had a very fun simulation about the spread of the avian flu. First writing up some idealistic stands from the department of state and then taking it to a panel with representatives from Homeland security, Health department and the defence department.
Of course it didn't flow as good as earlier, mostly attributed to the DoD (never trust the military) who only saw to their own interests. On the other hand we had kinda good relations with the other agencies on most issues and only had to work on the details (and of course the devils is in the details, but anyway). Then the next phaze is when it each the shores of the country and everything turns inward.
This time I put foreward the suggestion to nationalize the American pharmacetic companies and begin massproducing the drug to stop the spread of the diseas, but all the Americans said no, of course, "you don't do it here". But otherwise it worked very well. This time even the DoD went in line and supported our ideas. After much discussion and comprimasing we have a good deal and with happy faces enters the debate room once again facing this "expert" (two from the University) panel. We are totaly slaughtered. I'm glad I didn't stand in front of the class.
Of course everyone is slaughtered, but anyway. While sitting there I came upon the greatest idea with a little bit of everything from most sides. First, we declare martial law, but don't direct it toward the people, but instead we nationalize the pharmacist companis. Then we begin massproducing the drug that are the most efficent (we don't own it, but I assume that every company knows how to produce it). Gve it a week to a month and we have full scale production. In the meantime, we use our emergency stockpile of the drug to heal the most dire cases and by that gaining time until the production is ongoing. When its ready we sell it to our citizens and the national community in 75%-25% distrubution. From every treatment we take 10 cent and put it in aspecial fund. When the crisis is over we take the money and give it back to the company that couldn't prvide the drug from the begining and was blamed for it thus making ourselves look like the saviours of the world. I whished I asked what the panel whould have thought about that.
The evening was dedicated to the VP debate. No arguing who I supported, who won and such (I'm a Swede who want to nationalize all industries that was stated above when neccisary). This debate only strenghtend my opinions that its so nice to be me. Probably irritated those around me when I got frustrated duing curtain questions that to me is so simple (nothing is simple even to we think so). After the debate I went back to my room and the funny thing (funny on how you see it) is that Yuki now is sick and considering what the simulation was about its kinda funny (even the German guy is sick so who knows).
